Basic Craps Terms

Before you start gambling look through the most frequent terms that can be met in the craps game and confuse you if you go to casino for the first time. The good knowledge of them can polish your gambling talents.

Any Craps - betting that number 2, 3 or 12 comes up with the next roll. The payout of bet is 7-to-1.

Any Seven - betting that a 7 is rolled in the next dice throw. The payoff on this bet is 4-to-1.

Big 6 or Big 8 - bet that a 6 or 8 will come up before 7 with the next dice throw. The payoff of bet is even money or 1 to 1.

Big Red Bet -bet that any 7 comes up in the next dice roll.

Buy Bets - the bets which give the opportunity to bet that a 4, 10, 5, 9, 6, or 8 appears in the next dice shot before 7. Each gambler is to pay 5% commission on these bets whether it happens to be winning or is only placed.

Come Box - the betting box of the craps table for Come bets.

Come Bet - betting that the dice will pass on the next throw.

Come Out Roll - the first throw in the dice game. Come out roll determines the “point” for Pass or Don't pass bets.

Craps - the numbers 2, 3, and 12 that brought the name of the craps.

Dealer - the person which works at the table. Usually two dealers operate the dice table.

Don't Come Bet - betting that the dice will not pass in the next roll after the initial roll.

Don't Pass Line - the area on the table for Don’t Pass bets.

Don't Pass Bet - bet that number 2 or 3 is rolled with the Come out roll. The bet happens to win in case number 7 occurs on the dice earlier than the point number.

Field Bet - bet that a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 falls out on the next throw. The payoff for 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 is 1 to 1, for 2 and 12 the payoff is 2 to 1.

Hard Way - bet that "hard" (the same numbers coming upon both dice) 4, 6, 8, or 10 is thrown on the next dice shot earlier than a "soft" 4, 6, 8 or 10 or a 7 is rolled.

Horn Bet - bet that number 2, 3, 11, or 12 is rolled in the next dice roll.

Lay Bet - the bets which give the opportunity to bet that a 7 is thrown earlier than 4, 10, 5, 9, 6, or 8. The craps player is charged 5% commission on lay bets.

Pass or Pass - Line Bet - betting that number 7 or 11 will come up on the next dice roll or a point comes up before 7. Pass or Pass-Line bet is placed before the Come Out roll. If number 2, 3, or 12 occurs or a 7 comes up on the dice before the point the bet happens to be losing.

Place Bets - bets which give the opportunity to wager on place 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10. The Place bets are winning if one place number is rolled on the dice earlier than a 7.

Point - number 4 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 which is rolled on the Come Out roll.

Right Bettor - the player which makes bet on the Pass Line.

Shooter - the craps player who throws the dice.

Stickman - man which carries out the dice roll and is in charge of placing proposition bets.

Vig - the commission paid for specific bets.

Wrong Bettor - the gambler who bets on the Don't Pass Line.
